Martin Luther on Marriage Essay Example for Free

Martin Luther on Marriage EssayMartin Luther clearly states that in the beginning, God created male person and female, blessed them, and told them to be fruitful and multiply . According to Martin Luther, in order for this ordinance to be follow throughed, gay and wo worldly concern must come together in marriage as husband and wife. It is not within the powers of a man or a woman, according to Martin Luther, to be the way he/she is or to plump with by a render . Luther states that marriage is not a subject of free choice, but rather a natural and important thing. The ordinance, to be fruitful and multiply, is worshipful and not within the powers of man to obstruct or disregard.Man and woman are created by God for the sole purpose of multiplying, and whoever tries to resist this, lives in unrighteousness . Martin Luther however states that there are people who are exempted from marriage the eunuchs . He states that unless one is a eunuch, he/she should not presume to be wi thout a partner due to the fact that it is hard for one to remain righteous. He believes that marriage is something instituted by God and that every last(predicate) vows are invalid before Him, with the exception of whatever person who is a eunuch .He urges all those who take up taken vows to reconsider their innate companionship and get into marriage, because they are acting contrary to the result of God. Martin Luther rejects all the reasons set by the pope in his standard law for bringing a marriage to an end or preventing it altogether. Martin Luther believes that marriage is not all about money as set by the papal authority. According to Luther, a person should not enter into marriage with her mother, sister, step-mother, step-sister, grand little girl, or aunty regardless of whether he has money or not .Martin Luther however states that one can enter into marriage with her brothers daughter. He believes that a man should take a wife as he pleases, regardless of whether h e is the spiritual father, godchild, or whether the lady is a sister or a daughter of his spiritual sponsor or not. Martin Luther believes that an adopted child is free to marry the son or the daughter of its adoptive parent due to the fact that they have no blood relationship . He also asserts that everybody is free to get into marriage with whomever he/she pleases regardless of the religious or ethnic background of much(prenominal) a person. He believes that everyone is a Gods creation and should enter into marriage with whomever he/she likes. According to Martin Luther, no sin or crime should be a barrier to marriage. He argues that sins should be punished with other penalties, rather than forbidding marriage. Martin Luther also states that after the death of a spouse to be, a man or woman is free to marry any of the relative of the dead partner except for mother or daughter . Martin Luther claims that marriage as a result of coercion is not valid before the eyes of God.He howeve r states that a man, who is in marriage as a result of coercion, should not leave her wife . He also states that if a man takes more than two girls to be his wives, without the consent of her parents, then his father should decide which of the girls is to remain as a wife. He believes that parental authority must be respected before any one enters into secret engagement. Martin Luther states that marriages are not supposed to be broken without a sound cause . He states that the only logical reasons for dissolving a marriage are adultery and unfit spouse for marriage.Basing his arguments on the New Testament, Martin Luther makes it clear that no one should put asunder what God has joined together. According to Martin Luther, every party in marriage is supposed to fulfill the conjugal rights of the other. Basing his argument on the teachings of St Paul, he stresses that no man or woman has authority over his/her own body, but his/her partner does. Luther asserts that a part may be so ught if one of the parties does not satisfy the conjugal rights of the other. He continues to say that if a couple fuck offs a divorce, they should remain as such(prenominal) unless they are reconciled .The contemporary church, from this discussion, should realize that the estate of marriage has fallen into an extremely awful disgrace as Martin Luther asserts. It is high time the church complete that a woman is not an evil being. Women are Gods creation, and subjecting them to disrespect is blaspheming the work of God . Martin Luther states that in order that the church may lead on in light, concerning the issue of marriage, it should first hold that man and woman are the work of God, which should not be subjected to criticism .Basing his stand on the sexagenarian Testament, Martin Luther states that God knows what is well-behaved for everyone of us. It is high time therefore that the modern church leaders realized that God is the initiator of marriage. According to Martin Lut her, God saw it was not good for man to be alone, and he created for him a companion . Modern churches, in addition to church congregations, should learn that they have no right in deterring children from marriage alluring them to nunnery and priesthood, citing the tribulations of a married life .Martin Luther states that all those who criticize or censure marriage are acting contrary to the will of God. The church, found on that fact, should be on the look out for publications which criticize marriage. Luther is greatly embittered by those who term marriage as brief joy and long-lasting bitterness. He states that to recognize the estate of marriage is something quite different from merely being married . The church should learn that those who do not make out the estate of marriage can in no way continue in marriage without resentment and anguish. But, on the other hand, those who recognize the estate of marriage obtain unending pleasure, joy and delight. Basing his arguments on the teachings of St Paul, he says that those who marry are not exempted from earthly problems, but continues to say that their spiritual delight greatly exceed their superficial bitterness. The church, according to Martin Luther, should learn that no one can generate real happiness in marriage without recognizing that marriage is pleasing to God. The church should learn greatly from Martin Luthers assertion that he who refuses to marry will fall into sins .This is due to the fact that God created both man and woman for purposes of likeness and multiplication. He claims that if this reproduction happens not in marriage, then it is bound to happen in covert sins and fornication . Luther claims that it is high time the church stopped putting marriage so far below virginity. Luther claims that no estate should be taken as better than the estate of marriage in the sight of God . He states that those who survive to marry claiming that they are not able to support their marriage display a lack of faith in God. Yet, God has made it clear that out of our sweat shall we eat.The church should also learn that those who fail to marry out of celibacy, their vows are invalid before God unless they fall under the category of eunuchs. The church should learn, as Luther claims, that these people are bound to commit sins due to the fact that no one has the capability of resisting Gods ordinance within him/her. The church should also learn, as Luther makes it clear, not to take money as solution to critical marriage issues. Luther states that one may marry whomever he/she likes, except for a blood relative or parents to his/her spouse, without setting up any cash for the privilege .It can therefore be concluded that marriage is a good thing, for humankind, ordained from God. It is advisable for one to marry unless he falls under the category of eunuchs lest he fall into sins. The church should not set up conditions to square up the way marriage is supposed to be handled. Money and wealth should not be a factor to consider when getting into marriage. Bibliography Luther, Martin. Boring but Paid Well Job Essay Example for Free

Boring but Paid Well Job analyzeWould you take a authentically boring hire out if it paid well? Or are you the type of person to stay in a line of products that stimulates you even if the specie is bad? Many people face dilemma when they choose their jobs what they really want are high salaries. If one chooses what one really wants, one can be happy with a job but how much one earns from a job can non be ignored either. However, given a choice between those two, I would definitely lean more towards whether I am happy with my job than having a high salary since happiness can non be gained by money and satisfaction with a job that brings even more success. To my opinion job satisfaction is paramount. Much of a persons smell is spent at run. The job has to be done. It is the way of getting the salary. In a perfect world a person has the job they love with a salary they dream about. Very few of us live in this very perfect world. So why is job satisfaction more grave than th e salary?First of all, being happy with a job is more important than having a high salary because money cannot buy happiness. If we cannot enjoy working(a) and indulging in what we do, it means we gain nothing even though we are earning a high salary. Most people spend about or more than half of a day at work. It would be a torture to be stuck in a load of job which we never enjoy. On the other hand, one can gain self satisfaction if one is doing what one really wants even if one does not make a tie of money.Secondly, being happy with a job can bring even more success. If one works for ones goal or dream, not for money, one would put a lot of effort into ones work. Then, there is not doubt that outcomes or results coming from ones work will be more successful. For example, the famous Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, forsook his safe way of getting a stable job when he decided to abandon Harvard because he knew he was happy with life in the university. So, he chose a difficul t way only to pursue what he really wanted and the imprint that he would change the world. Without his brave decision, Microsoft would not have been born.Is money important? Certainly. However, it is important to note that money doesnt buy happiness. Money does buy opportunities. These opportunities whitethorn or may not turn into a good thing, so it is a gamble. Job satisfaction is not a gamble. It is a constant terrestrial process. There are some days one comparables their job better than others, but overall job satisfaction is fairly consistent. Money can not replace those hours, feelings and expectations. In conclusion, I strongly agree that being happy with a job is more important than having a high salary since money cannot buy happiness and sometimes people can be more successful when they are happy with their jobs. Nowadays, more and more people too oft consider money as the most important factor when they choose something. A recent UK survey found that British workers we re now ranking job satisfaction lower than money when it came changing jobs. That might be a trend created by the global financial crisis, as people become more aware of their financial circumstances. However, I believe people should listen to what they are really keen about in their hearts, especially when they make important decisions like choosing their jobs which might influence their entire lives. It may not be true for every individual, but for most, it is more important to love what you are doing than it is to make more money than necessary. Money is simply one rung in the job satisfaction ladder.

Introduction SynopsisEncryption of data plays a vital role in the real time purlieu to keep the data out of reach of unauthorized people, such that it is not altered and tampered and send the in audio format is most secured focus to absent the data through with(predicate) the network. The Audio Steganography is software program, which tries to alter the originality of the charge into some encrypted form and embed the record into an audio charge. Then the substance ab users tail end easily and securely pack the compressed data wherever he wants. The major task of the Audio Steganography is to succeed the user the flexibleness of passing the information implementing the encryption standards as per the go over and algorithms proposed and submit the information in a form that is unreadable. The Application should discombobulate a reversal deal as of which should be in a target to de embe d the data file from audio file and decrypt the data to its original format upon the appropriate request by the user. While the Encryption and decryption is through with(p) the application should confirm the standards of au and thentication and authorization of the user. The Entire application should strive to achieve a user friendly Graphical User Interface, which postulate to be in a self-learning mode for the end user. The System Should provide all the functional standards of proper navigation with in the environment, which makes it possible for the users to befool a smooth flow while working under the environment. The Overall ashes should provide proper menu based navigation for easier navigation and operation. The Application should be intentional in such a way that, as soon as it starts create a Buffer and associate this buffer to some self-colored data environment, the application should ask the user for the Encryption Key details and should start its functionality upo n the logistics that are provided with in this notice. The key should be designed in such a way that it prevents the unauthorized persons from stealing the information at any point of time. This is some part of securing the data from third party people. And the other way of securing the data is using Steganography in which embedding the encrypted file in to a audio file. If any one track that file they only see the audio file not the data. The application of De-embedding, Decryption and de compress should be a check process at the other end and should be translated only when the receiver of the data applies the proper reversal key. The Decryption process should have a log-based methodology that leave take care of any errors that may be encountered while the system is under utilization and should record all those events, which are above the general standards of credentials. This system basically uses the sea squab encryption algorithm to encrypt the passwords. The system will be developed and operated in the existing hardware and software infrastructure. So there is no need of additional hardware and software for the system.Existing and Proposed System3.2 Ex isting SystemIn the traditional architecture there existed only the boniface and the client. In most cases the server was only a data base server that can only offer data. Therefore majority of the business logic i.e., validations etc. had to be placed on the clients system. This makes maintenance expensive. Such clients are called as fat clients. This also pith that every client has to be accomplished as to how to use the application and even the security in the communication is also the factor to be considered.Since the actual processing of the data takes place on the remote client the data has to be transported over the network, which requires a secured format of the enthral method. How to conduct transactions is to be controlled by the client and advanced techniques implementing the cryptographic standards in the executing the data transfer transactions. Present day transactions are considered to be un-trusted in terms of security, i.e. they are relatively easy to be hacked . And also we have to consider the transfer the large amount of data through the network will give errors while transferring. Nevertheless, sensitive data transfer is to be carried out even if there is lack of an alternative. Network security in the existing system is the motivation factor for a new system with higher-level security standards for the information exchange.3.3 Proposed SystemThe proposed system should have the following features. The transactions should take place in a secured format between various clients in the network. It provides flexibility to the user to transfer the data through the network very easily by compressing the large amount of file. It should also identify the user and provide the communication match to the prescribed level of security with transfer of the file requested and puzzle out the required process at the server if necessary. In this system the data will be send through the network as a audio file. The user who received the file will do the operations like de embedding, decryption, and decompress in their level of hierarchy etc.AnalysisReport3.4 System AnalysisPeople for long time have tried to sort out the problems faced in the general digital communication system but as these problems exist even now, a secured and easy transfer system evolved and came to be known as the Encryption and Decryption of the data and converting the file to audio format to be transferred using the cryptographic standards and Steganography. The advantages of this Audio Steganography areHigh level SecurityCost effective transferIn this fast growing world where every individual free to opening the information on the network and even the people are technically sound enough in hacking the information from the network for various reasons. The organizations have the process of information transfer in and out of their network at various levels, which need the process to be in a secured format for the organizational benefits. If the organizations h ave the Audio Steganography System, then each employee can send the information to any other registered employee and thus can establish communication. The audio file that the employee sends reaches the destinations within no time in an audio file format where the end user need to de embed the file, decrypt it and de compress and use for the purpose. The various branches of the organization can be connected to a single host server and then an employee of one branch can send files to the employee of another branch through the server but in a secured format.System Design4. System DesignThe System Design includes the maintenance of the secure file transfer service with a prescribed encryption format and split at the interested level of encryption, and embed process and the receiving service at the other end with de-embed and decryption process. The design also includes the provision of facility to the user to manipulate the concerned information according to his personal use and communi cation process. The design also needs to provide the communication channel to the user to communicate with other registered users through the mailing services in a reliable and secured format. Authorization and authentication services are preferred most for this purpose. The System Design includes the maintenance authorization services, File and directory services with a prescribed encryption format at the interested level of encryption and the receiving service at the other end with decryption process. The design also includes the provision of facility to the user to manipulate the concerned information according to his personal use.The design of Audio Steganography system, basically involve the port wine architecture, Security services, and communication system. In the interface design we involve with the design of the user interface with GUI standards and a proper navigation system where the user need to enter into the flow of transactions authorization services are check and pul l ahead access is provided into the system. Then the user needs to select into the operations provided through the GUI where compression, encryption, embedding, de-embedding, Decryption, Decompressing and sending of the file, General information and exit are provided. here(predicate) the Encryption and decryption and services are provided connecting to the security services module where the encryption and decryption are carried out using the cryptographic standards implementing the Blowfish algorithm. by and by the compression process is consummate the user is selecting the file for encryption. After encryption of the file is completed the user is to select the file for embedding it to the audio file and sending through the network to the desired user by specifying the targeted users system IP address in the panel designed. Then the system gets connected to the targeted user and delivers the file in audio format after which the user working with the Audio Steganography software sho uld go for the option De-Embed Files and decrypt the file by selecting the file highway by which the file gets decrypted and decompress the file and is viewed on the system.4.1 System DescriptionThe Audio Steganography system is designed basically in four different modules they are GUI module, Compression Module, Security System module, Steganography Module, Connection Manager Module.GUI Module basically deals with the design of the interface which include the service of providing the user with the flexibility of accessing the file system and selecting the required file for the transfer. It should also provide the system to collect the information from the user to check the authorization in providing the access to the file system. The interface is also to consider the design, which include the services of sending and receiving of the files with encryption and decryption standards. The Compression module basically deals with the compress and decompresses the file, which is used to se nd the file very easily which reduces the uploading time.Security implementation module considers the implementation of the encryptions and decryption standards in transfer the files from one system to another in a distributed environment. The system design, even need to support the user to select the level of encryption he/she needs to perform depending upon the file to be transferred. The basic algorithm used in this purpose is the Blowfish where the user can enter the key depending upon level encryption he is interested. The Connection Manager deals with the architecture, which supports the system to identify the end users for the communication and establish the communication. Connection and disconnection of the communication channel between the users for the access of file system and file transfer services. The Connection Manager receives the IP address to be connected and the file to be sent then establishes the connection and transfers the file.Functional RequirementsThe Module s of the system are1) Blowfish Algorithm Implementation Module2) Steganography Module3) Compression Module4) GUI ModuleBlowfish AlgorithmBlowfish is a block cipher that encrypts data in 8-byte blocks. The algorithm consists of two parts a key-expansion part and a data-encryption part. Key expansion converts a variable-length key of at most 56 bytes (448 bits) into several sub key aligns totaling 4168 bytes.Blowfish has 16 rounds. Each round consists of a key-dependent permutation, and a key- and data-dependent substitution. All operations are XORs and additions on 32-bit words. The only additional operations are four indexed array data lookups per round.Sub keysBlowfish uses a large number of sub keys. These keys must(prenominal) be precomputed before any data encryption or decryption. The P-array consists of 18 32-bit sub keys P1, P2,, P18. There are also four 32-bit S-boxes with 256 entries each S1,0, S1,1,, S1,255 S2,0, S2,1,..,, S2,255 S3,0, S3,1,, S3,255 S4,0, S4,1,..,, S4,25 5.Encryption and DecryptionBlowfish has 16 rounds. The input is a 64-bit data element, x. Divide x into two 32-bit halves XL, xR. Then, for i = 1 to 16XL = XL XOR PixR = F (XL) XOR xRSwap XL and xRAfter the sixteenth round, swap xL and xR once more to undo the last swap. Then, xR = xR XOR P17 and XL = XL XOR P18. Finally, recombine xL and xR to get the cipher text.Function F looks like this Divide XL into four eight-bit quarter a, b, c, and d. Then, F (xL) = ((S1, a + S2, b mod 232) XOR S3, c) + S4, d mod 232.Decryption is exactly the same as encryption, except that P1, P2, P18 are used in the reverse order.Generating the Sub keysThe sub keys are calculated using the Blowfish algorithm1. Initialize first the P-array and then the four S-boxes, in order, with a fixed draw in. This string consists of the hexadecimal digits of pi (less the initial 3) P1 = 0x243f6a88, P2 = 0x85a308d3, P3 = 0x13198a2e, P4 = 0x03707344, etc.2. XOR P1 with the first 32 bits of the key, XOR P2 with the sec ond 32-bits of the key, and so on for all bits of the key (possibly up to P14). Repeatedly cycle through the key bits until the entire P-array has been XORed with key bits. (For every short key, there is at least one equivalent longer key for example, if A is a 64-bit key, then AA, AAA, etc., are equivalent keys.)3. Encrypt the all-zero string with the Blowfish algorithm, using the sub keys described in steps (1) and (2).4. Replace P1 and P2 with the product of step (3).5. Encrypt the output of step (3) using the Blowfish algorithm with the modified sub keys.6. Replace P3 and P4 with the output of step (5).7. Continue the process, replacing all entries of the P array, and then all four S-boxes in order, with the output of the continuously changing Blowfish algorithm. In total, 521 iterations are required to generate all required sub keys. Applications can store the sub keys rather than execute this derivation process multiple times.SteganographySteganography is art of hiding informa tion in ways that prevent the detection of hidden messages. Steganography derived from Greek, literally means Covered Writing. It includes a vast array of secret communications methods that conceal the messages very existence. Theses methods are including invisible inks, microdots, character arrangement, digital signature, and covert impart and spread spectrum communications. In this technology, the end user identifies an audio file, which is going to act as the carrier of data. The data file is also selected and then to achieve greater speed of transmission the data file and audio file are sent. Prior to this the data is embedded into the audio and then sent. The image if hacked or taken by a third party user will open up in any audio player but not displaying the data. This protects the data from being invisible and hence is secure during transmission. The user in the receiving end uses another piece of enter to retrieve the data from the audio file. The module deals with identify ing the hidden data in the audio file. The module receives the audio file that is then browsed to remove the associated data. The data is then removed from the audio file.Compression and DecompressionCompression reduces the average edict length used to represent the symbols of an alphabet. Symbols of the germ alphabet, which occur frequently, are assigned with short length laws. The general strategy is to allow the code length to vary from character to character and to ensure that the frequently occurring character has shorter codes. We use utility package for compression. This technique maps arbitrary input into printable character output. The form of encoding has the following relevant characteristics. The range of the function is a character set that is universally re-presentable at all sites, not a item binary encoding of that character set. Thus, the characters themselves can be encoded into whatever form is needed by a specific system. For instance, the character E is repre sented in ASCII system as a hexadecimal 45 and in EDCDIC- based system as hexadecimal- c5.The character set consists of 65 printable characters, one of which is used for padding. With 26 = 64 available characters, each character can be used to represent 6 bits of input. No control characters are include in the set. Thus, the message encoded in Radix-64 can traverse mail-handling system. That scans the data stream for control characters. The hyphen character - is not included.Graphical User InterfaceThis project is developed using graphics in java swings. The options available are displayed in a menu format, like in an online editor. Clicking on any finical menu item through mouse or through keyboard a dropdown menu is displayed, listing all the options available under that menu item and the user can select the needed actions according to their wish.UML DiagramsUse case DiagramSender recipientUse case DescriptionUse case identifyCompressdynamic actorsSenderFlow of eventsThe user se lected file will be compressedEntry ConditionUser must select the file. get condition sure-fire or Un Successful Compression of file.Quality RequirementsDisplay proper error messages while compression.Use case figureDe Compress act actorsReceiverFlow of eventsThe user selected file will be de compressedEntry ConditionUser must select the file. extend conditionSuccessful or Un Successful De-Compression of file.Quality RequirementsDisplay proper error messages while de-compression.Use case nameEncryptdynamic actorsSenderFlow of eventsThe user-selected file will be encrypted with a given key.Entry ConditionUser must select the file and must give the key for encryption.Exit conditionSuccessful or Un Successful Encryption of file.Quality RequirementsDisplay proper error messages while Encryption.Use case nameDecryptParticipating actorsReceiverFlow of eventsThe user-selected file will be decrypted with a proper key.Entry ConditionUser must select the file and must give the key for decryp tion.Exit conditionSuccessful or Un Successful Decryption of file.QualityRequirementsDisplay proper error messages while Decryption.Use case nameEmbedParticipating actorsSenderFlow of eventsThe user-selected encrypted file will be embedding with selected audio file.Entry ConditionUser must select the one encrypted file and one audio file for embedding.Exit conditionSuccessful or Un Successful Embedding process.Quality RequirementsDisplay proper error messages while Embedding two files.Use case nameDe-EmbedParticipating actorsReceiverFlow of eventsThe user-selected audio file will be de-embedding to encrypted file.Entry ConditionUser must select the audio file for de-embedding.Exit conditionSuccessful or Un Successful De-embedding of file.Quality RequirementsDisplay proper error messages while De-embedding.Use case nameSend FileParticipating actorsSenderFlow of eventsThe user-selected file will be send to the given host.Entry ConditionUser must select the file to send and must know t he IP address of the destination host.Exit conditionSuccessful or Un Successful sending of file to the destination host.Quality RequirementsDisplay proper error messages while Sending the file.Class DiagramSequence DiagramsSenderReceiver exertion Diagram for Compression, Encryption, Embedding SendingEncryption SystemSenderActivity Diagram for De-Embed, Decrypt DecompressReceiverDecryption SystemSoftware OverviewFEATURES OF THE LANGUAGE USEDAbout JavaInitially the language was called as oak but it was renamed as Java in 1995. The primary motivation of this language was the need for a platform-independent (i.e., architecture neutral) language that could be used to create software to be embedded in various consumer electronic devices.Java is a programmers language.Java is cohesive and consistent.Except for those constraints imposed by the Internet environment, Java gives the programmer, full control. Finally, Java is to Internet programming where C was to system programming.Applicati ons and AppletsAn application is a program that runs on our Computer under the operating system of that computer. It is more or less like one creating using C or C++. Javas ability to create Applets makes it Copernican. An Applet is an application designed, to be transmitted over the Internet and kill by a Java -compatible web browser. An applet is actually a tiny Java program, dynamically downloaded across the network, just like an image. But the difference is, it is an intelligent program, not just a media file. It can react to the user input and dynamically change.FEATURES OF JAVASecurityEvery time you that you download a shape program, you are risking a viral infection. Prior to Java, most users did not download executable programs frequently, and those who did scanned them for viruses prior to execution. Most users still worried about the possibility of infecting their systems with a virus. In addition, another type of malicious program exists that must be guarded against. T his type of program can gather private information, such as credit card numbers, bank account balances, and passwords. Java answers both of these concerns by providing a firewall between a networked application and your computer. When you use a Java-compatible Web browser, you can safely download Java applets without fear of virus infection or malicious intent.PortabilityFor programs to be dynamically downloaded to all the various types of platforms connected to the Internet, some means of generating portable executable code is needed .As you will see, the same mechanism that helps ensure security also helps create portability. Indeed, Javas solution to these two problems is both urbane and efficient. The Byte codeThe key that allows the Java to solve the security and portability problem is that the output of Java compiler is Byte code. Byte code is a highly optimized set of instructions designed to execute by the Java run-time system, which is called the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). That is, in its standard form, the JVM is an interpreter for byte code.Translating a Java program into byte code helps makes it much easier to run a program in a wide variety of environments. The reason is, Once the run-time package exists for a given system, any Java program can run on it.Although Java was designed for interpretation, there is technically nothing about Java that prevents on-the-fly compilation of byte code into native code. Sun has just completed its Just In Time (JIT) compiler for byte code. When the JIT compiler is a part of JVM, it compiles byte code into executable code in real time, on a piece-by-piece, contend basis. It is not possible to compile an entire Java program into executable code all at once, because Java performs various run-time checks that can be done only at run time. The JIT compiles code, as it is needed, during execution.Java Virtual Machine (JVM)Beyond the language, there is the Java virtual machine. The Java virtual machine is an importan t element of the Java technology. The virtual machine can be embedded within a web browser or an operating system. Once a piece of Java code is loaded onto a machine, it is verified. As part of the loading process, a class loader is invoked and does byte code verification makes sure that the code thats has been generated by the compiler will not corrupt the machine that its loaded on. Byte code verification takes place at the end of the compilation process to make sure that is all accurate and correct. So byte code verification is integral to the compiling and executing of Java code.JavacJava VirtualMachineJava byte codeJavaSource.Java .ClassThe above picture shows the development process a typical Java programming uses to produce byte codes and executes them. The first box indicates that the Java source code is located in a. Java file that is processed with a Java compiler called JAVA. The Java compiler produces a file called a. class file, which contains the byte code. The class f ile is then loaded across the network or loaded locally on your machine into the execution environment is the Java virtual machine, which interprets and executes the byte code.Java ArchitectureJava architecture provides a portable, robust, high performing environment for development. Java provides portability by compiling the byte codes for the Java Virtual Machine, which is then interpreted on each platform by the run-time environment. Java is a dynamic system, able to load code when needed from a machine in the same style or across the planet.Compilation of CodeWhen you compile the code, the Java compiler creates machine code (called byte code) for a hypothetical machine called Java Virtual Machi

Two Views Of Imperialism In The Twentieth Century History Essay

Two Views Of Imperialism In The Twentieth Century History EssayThere were deuce countries that had a common tie in to imperialism. One was the country of India in 1907 and the otherwise was the country of Uganda in 1923. These two countries had two separate responses to European imperialism. These two responses were written by two authors which had vastly different viewpoints on how imperialism was perceived throughout world history. These two viewpoints would ulterior change the way society viewed imperialism.Bal Gangadhar Tilak, born in 1856 and died in 1920 was an Indian superpatriotic leader. He was educated in India and in London and admitted to the English bar in 1889. He practiced law unsuccessfully in India for two years. He was a journalist who utilized the newspapers to set forth his nationalistic ideals. Bal Tilak was unity of the roughly popular leading of the early nationalist movement. He demanded self traffic pattern and was known as a man of action. The Br itish feargond him and described him as one of the most dangerous pioneers of disaffection and truly the father of Indian unrest. Bal Tilak use the belief frame of the gurus M K Gandhi and Veer Savarkar.Lord Lugard was the one of the most important British colonial officials and a high commissioner for northern Nigeria. He later became the governor-general of Nigeria. In 1914, Lord Frederick Lugard, the governor of Britains territories in Nigeria, unify the states in northern and southern Nigeria into a single colony. He worked in the administration of these two colonies and eventually formed the country of Nigeria. It was his work in these territories which led him to develop his theory of mediate witness. This fashion of rule, which emphasized working through native leaders and utilizing native social structures, became the official policy of British imperialism throughout the empire during the 1920s.There were also several similarities between the two authors and the countr y which they supported. One was that they both dealt with imperialism. The idea of imperialism is to rule over a commonwealth or a place through colonization, military power, economic or policy-making power. It also is outlined as the creation and maintenance of an unequal economic, cultural, and territorial relationship, usually between states and often in the form of an empire based on domination and subordination. The vocalize imperialism comes from the term empire. Imperialism refers to the practice of domination of one country by another in narrate to expand territory, power and influence. It usually carries with it the idea of cultural superiority on the part of the imperialist, judging the way of life, traditions and beliefs of those colonize as inferior and worthy of replacementAnother similarity between the two documents is that both of these documents touch on nationalism. Nationalism was the common link between the two documents and their associated country, since b oth Lugard and Tilak envisioned a Nationalist society. They wanted Nationalism because it is a belief that creates and sustains a nation as a concept of a common identity for a group of humans. According to the theory of nationalism, it is the preservation of identity features and the independence of all people from the country are a common fundamental value.Naturally, where there are similarities there are also differences. These are some of the points in which the viewpoints of Lord Lugard are different than that of Bal Tilak. One difference is that the document written by Bal Tilak about India concerns the Indian National Congress. This was an Indian political party founded in 1885 and created by a group of English-speaking urban intellectuals. Its founding members proposed economic reforms and wanted a larger role in the making of British policy for India. was founded in order that educated Indians might gain something of a voice in the governance of their own country. By 1907, however, the Congress had split into a moderate group which seek dominion status for India, and a radical warlike group led by Bal Tilak which proposed a system of self-rule. The Indian National Congress would be undecomposed for India once Britain rule was replaced by indirect rule.Another difference is the idea of indirect rule. The system of indirect rule, which Lord Lugard supported meant that it was the understanding of the British colonial method to rule through and by the natives. Although, they also had to submit to a higher authority, which in this case was Britain. He advocated that an indirect rule system had tierce major institutions. One was the native authority made up of the local anesthetic ruler, the colonial official, and the administrative staff. The next was the native treasury which collected revenues to pay for the local administrative staff and services. The last was the native courts which supposedly applied native laws and customs. the supposedly traditi onal legal system of the colonized that was used by the courts to try on cases. People in Africa previously had diverse types of government ranging from highly centralized states to stateless societies. As a result, indirect rule increased divisions between cultural groups and gave power to certain men of higher authority that never had it before. This system operated with the association of already naturalised political leaderships and institutions. The theory and practice of indirect rule is commonly associated with the emirates of northern Nigeria. The emirates had an show uped and functional administrative system and Lord Lugard simply adapted it to his own way of thinking. This was cheap and convenient. The attempts to portray the use of indirect rule as an expression of British administrative genius did not work. It was a realistic and frugal choice based partly on development existing functional institutions. This choice was also partially structured upon Britains unwilli ngness to provide the resources required to manage its vast empire. Instead, it developed the stubborn view that the colonized should pay for their own colonial control. Therefore, Britain gave the colonized the choice of indirect rule. In this disperse society, the system of indirect rule did not work very sound because there was no single ruler. The British colonizers who were unfamiliar with these new and unique political systems insisted that African natives should have chiefs. Imperialist ambitions in Africa were boosted by the expansion of private-enterprise(a) trade in Europe. The main aim was to secure commercial and trade links with African colonies and protect those links from other European competitors. Europe established trade relations with certain African colonies and promoted trade with these countries. European traders were at first not interested in expanding into the interior of Africa. As long as African rulers assured them of a come out of slaves from the inte rior, they felt no need to expand into the interior. The rapid expansion of industries made European countries look to Africa for a supply of cheap raw materials and slave labor. These two different responses to British imperialism may tell the reader more information about the colonizer. A colonizer is the people or persons that establishes a colony in another country or place. Africans resisted colonial rule from the outset but were not strong enough to preserve themselves against European conquest. As a result, most of Africa was colonized. Only Ethiopia and Liberia remained free. Colonization was resisted as the local people tried to hold on to their land and freedom. In most cases this was unsuccessfull. The responses may also tell the reader more about the colonized people. To be colonized means to migrate to and settle in order to establish a colony or territory under the immediate political control of a state.Bal Tilak spoke powerful and accurately of India and summarized th e feelings of the new and increasingly militant national movement. He said that the British rulers ruined trade, caused the collapse of industry, and destroyed the peoples courage and abilities. Under the colonial regimen, Tilak asserted that the country was offered neither education, rights, or compliments for public opinion. Without prosperity and contentment, the Indian people suffered constantly from poverty and famine and the decimation of health. Tilak saw only one remedy which was for the Indian people to take political power. If the people did not have this then the Indian industry could not develop and the youth could not be educated. Therefore the country could not pull in social reforms or material welfare for the people.Tilak saw colonial rule as being unfavorable to Indias progress, and the contradictions between the British oppressors and the Indian people as being irreconcilable.Later societies within certain countries were able to understand the European imperial s ystem by learning from past mistakes. In the late nineteenth century India was an agricultural society. Jute, raw cotton, tea and coffee were exported to Britain. Textiles and other manufactured products were imported from Britain to India. The Indian textile industry could not compete with cheap, mass produced British goods. However in the early 20th century Indian industries began to develop. It was still mostly a farming and agricultural country but this was beginning to change. At the same time Britain was in decline. In the mid-19th century Britain was the most powerful country in the world but by the end of the century other powers such as Germany and the USA had caught up. Britain was weakened by the first world war and continued to decline in the 1920s and 1930s. As Britain declined Indian nationalist feelings grew stronger.Indirect rule worked well in areas which had long standing centralized state systems such as chiefdoms, kingdoms, and empires along with their respective administrative and judicial systems of government. This meant that the African leaders could exercise authority at the mercy of European colonial officials. Thus the political and social restaints that tied them to their people in the old system had been broken. Some clever African leaders maneuvered and ruled as best they could. Others used the new colonial setting to become tyrants and oppressors, even though they were eventually responsible to the British officials.Imperialism takes the form of political control and creating economic dependence. In Europe, the period where imperialism coincided with growing nationalism and unification when previously divided political units were united under a single monarchy. An alliance allowed for empire building because people were gathered under a monarchy that claimed the right to rule them. Examples are German and Italian unification. Towards the end of the 19th century, imperialism became a policy of colonial expansion pursued by differe nt European powers. The way that these two authors from separate countries defined imperialism was one of the ways that imperialism was assisted in the way it extended and became more prevalent globally after 1920. These are the ways in which these two documents have helped later societies to understand the European imperial system and the successive independence movements of the early twentieth century.SourcesIndian National Congress Infoplease.com http//www.infoplease.com/ce6/history/A0825112.htmlixzz1KeEizdAIFrederick D. Tim Burton and Johnny Depp

Tim Burton and grayback DeppThey ar two giants of films of our measures or the Modern Cinema. Together, the magic they have created for big screen is sure enough worthy of discussion as it is the longest lasting partnership between an actor and a director till date and that too only to lift unique cinematic masterpieces of their own kind. Indeed the legendary Director Tim Burton and the pliable playacting machine Jonny Depp are under discussion here. How and why have they managed to consort together the some successful innings of all times? Who are they? What are the films they have collaborated in? How do they think near each others art? nevertheless the most all important(predicate) of all the thoughts would be that Why Tim Burton almost always depends on Johnny Depp and how predictably Mr Depp proves to be a Burton-magnet equally? Why are they inseparable? My essay is acquittance to explore and throw a light on this unique partnership that is continuing to entertain us for the years to come, how it is poignant the viewers and critics alike and if it is worth practicing this bond almost every time? Tim Burton has used his vision to embark on Hollywood genre filmmaking, gathering an transnational audience and fans. His work also influences a young generation of artists working in film, video and graphic industries. Tim Burton the name alone enlivens up the images of Gothic landscapes, infernal clowns, and the sombre pleasantness of a loner struggling to find his way into un-accepting world. Like Alfred Hitchcock before him, Tim Burton has become mythical persona, known as much for his natural appearances, alternately described as endearingly pass, dork chic, or dishevelled for its highly stylized films. His films have been able to rise above twain genre and explanation. The ideas and the material that appear in his work are both universal and timeless. His films, in first place, affect people emotionally rather than creation intellectual. Thi s resulted in Tim Burton becoming one of the filmmakers who based their films on their personal visions, the other being Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese, Stanley Kubirck, David Lynch and Spike Lee.Timothy Walter Tim Burton was born (1958) and grew up in suburban California. He was into drawing and painting since premature childhood together with a thing for movies and that too, monster movies. Trying his weird ideas of home-made animation through kick motion in his back yard resulted in his first proper short came into being which was produced by Burtons friend, Rick Heinrichs. Tim Burton managed to get screened and noticed at lolly Film Festival. Following this, his first live action film Hansel and Gratelfor Disney Channel was released. It kind of went some un-noticed and only recently has been un-earthed. Next was the live-action short Frankenweenie which got the attention of the American actor Paul Ruebens who provided Burton the opportunity to materialise his first feature bas ed on Ruebens popular character Pee-Wee Herman into the Pee-Wees BigAdventure (1985)which proved a box office success. When the time came to make Edward Scissorhands, in that respect were m any(prenominal) considerations for main role of the film. One prominent of all was to cast Tom Cruise, who was the top shining star of the period who was nearly finalised for the film, due to his star power, the film studios needed. still Tim Burton and the producer Denise di Novi fell for the auditioned, the bored television star, Johnny Depp, who had never done a feature before. John Christopher Johnny Depp was born (1963) in Kentucky, USA. He was mostly known for strange and unusual characters, playing as a garage band musician in his early teens. He covered many a mile stones darn staying within the music circles. His make-up artist wife introduced him to Nicolas Cage, and it was him who advised Depp to pursue an acting career. agree to Squidoo (2010), Depps talent was first recognised in television series 21 Jump Streetby audience and he was regarded as a teen idol. Depp diverted his instruction to suitable film roles because of uncomfortable characterization in television roles. It was then, when Edward Scissorhands stepped into his life to change his fate forever. Depp re vociferates the memorable encounter with Burton in his exclusive present of forewords for a book, Burton on Burton based on interviews of the director, when he wasnt doing much, rather stuck up with a television series and after even finishing it, its post traumas. He stock a script which referred to a story of boy with scissors for hands. It was certainly a change, a breath of fresh air that he got quite mad and obsessed with the script and read a couple times. Under-estimating his selection as a possible candidate for the Edward, he went on to meet Burton and the producer in LA. Post three hour long meeting, Depp remembers the thought of certainty of him not being the Edward of Burtons film. Weeks later he couldnt believe his fate when he got a call saying you are Edward Scissorhands. There was a path that seemed to be appearing in front of Depp. Salisbury (2008) stated that after their first work together, i.e. Burtons Edward Scissorhands (1990), both of them have taken their relation to produce some of the best work of their respective careers. Johnny Depp is not only lead by Burton but by his own interpretation of a character, whether it is razor-fingered Edward Scissorhands, cross-dressing film director Ed Wood or creepy confectionery king Willy Wonka. Theyve since made five films together including Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the animated Corpse Bride, Depp doing the voice over for lead character) and, most recently, Sweeney Todd. harmonise to Cortez (2004), Depp again worked with Tim Burton in Ed Wood (1994) proving his mastermind and winning a. This movie is one of the Burtons highly praised films. In the movie, other than Johnny Depp, there were some vibrant performers including Bill Murray, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Martin Landau as Bela Lugosi. Both of them, Depp and Burton, once again collaborated in 1999 in Sleepy Hollow. The film was a hit at box office it was recognised as Burtons extra-ordinary work rather than being seen as Depps star power, as stated by Cortez (2004). For the movie, Depp incorporated some of his own attributes into the character of an officer, named Ichabod Crane having a prudish nature, who is on to solve some murky murders taken place recently in and around the town. Depp was able to gain reputation with other directors and the critics also showed some confidence in his abilities. Depps career was at peak with an Oscar to his name for the film Finding Neverland, a Pirates sequel was on line and Tim Burtons eagerly awaited Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was about to be released. As stated by Terry Gilliam after completing Fear and Loathing, As far as Im concerned, Johnny Depp is the best actor of his generation. I think hes assailable of anything theres no limit to his abilities He doesnt cheat by giving you all these cheap emotions. He wont make you comfortable for him that would be a fanny in the grave. In reply to this Depp said that he decided to have patience in selecting the roles. He also said that he preferred roles of his intimacy and not the roles with chance of his career advancement. He also added that he never wanted to be remembered because he was a star.Depp turned down every offer, with well(p) confidence, which did not attract him or was not interesting. Mostly, he rejected the offers because they were in his way of acting in Burtons film. He rejected the offer of acting in Speed and Interview with the Vampire and instead he acted in Tim Burtons best film Ed Wood (1994). Since their first movie together Edward Scissorhands, Burton and Depp shared a strong bond between each other and both individuals are so perfectly similar that D epp became Burtons first and convenient choice for his every movie. agree to Winter (2005), Burton once stated, Johnny is like a character actor in a leading mans body. He could do it all. No one had any idea of the consequences of their imaginative collaboration. They both had already made seven blockbusters and their partnership has not ended yet.The classy understanding they both have developed with each other at work, over the years, is one of the important trait of their teamwork at work. They do not face difficulties in explaining anything to each other. They would be speaking formula language, though shorter sentences, on the sets with everyone present but no one would be able to understand it but the person who it is intended for. A Little saying, a gesture and certain look of the director will get look out of the actor that will be termed as just what the doctor lucid. In order to make a grasp of Burtons and Depps style of collaborating, we need to have an insight of the ir methodology or simply their way of working while developing things. Tim Burton and Johnny Depp worked together in Sweeney Todd (2007) paying a respect, both visually and verbally, to the horror movies they watched in their childhood. Salisbury (2008) stated that both of them have a common favourite movie named Mad Love (1935), with actor Peter Lorre and sharing an expensive acting style like Boris Karloff and Lon Chaney. Depp said, Its almost a alienated art John Barrymore was a master, but the king for me was Lon Chaney. You go back and watch films like The Penalty and see this rage and sadness, this huge range of emotions, without the luxury of dialogue. According to Salisbury (2008), Sweeneys lines were cut down every day on set to bare minimum. Burton told, Johnny can, just by looking and not saying anything, forecast pain and sadness and anger and longing. Thats what all those actors could do without a word and that was the exciting thing about this. The storys told throug h the eyes and the singing. As in Edward Scissorhands and Ed Wood, Depp played a similar role in Sweeney Todd helping Burton to connect emotionally and psychologically. Depp recalled, There were moments when Burton used to say that this is his favourite character. Johnny also expresses about their bond and the expectations, By now people know that when Tim and I get together, they should expect the unexpected. Audiences are again getting to set for yet another bonnie artistic version of Burtons Alice in the wonderland,(rel,Mar,2010) in which by the look of it, we get to see his stars, including Depp again, dazzle in a startling look. Film journalist, Geoff Boucher, mentions in Los Angeles multiplication about his recent telephonic-conversation with Tim Burton on the sets of Alice in Wonderland, I told Burton that it seems as if Depp (who has other upcoming roles as an Old West hero, a pirate and a vampire) approaches his acting choices the same way a gleeful kid rummages through a trunk of dress-up clothes the filmmaker let out a loud laugh. According to Boucher (2008), Burton replied, Its true. Yeah we have a big dress-up clothes trunk here. We take it with us wherever we go. After all these years and a skinny load of successful experiences, it is no surprise that Johnny has become a yes man to his Burton. He is never short of words each time when he has to talk about his mentor and which he has memorably expresses on several occasions. As stated by Salisbury (1995, xii) that in Johnny Depps own words, You slang expression label what he does. It is not magic, because that would imply some sort of trickery. It is not just skill, because that seems like it is learned. What he has is very special gift that we dont see every day. It is not enough to call him film-maker. The rare title of genius is better fit, in not just films, but drawings, photographs, thought, insight and ideas. At another place, stated by Salisbury (1995), the most humble and defining rema rk comes from the actor himself, My life is my life because of Tim, he once declared. Same is the case in their common soldier lives. In order to analyse the inseparable nature of both the individual professionally, we cannot ignore the importance of their bonding on personal fronts. The once an essential descent of an actor and director turned-friendship has now turned to something that is much more than mere friendship that holds a unique bond of trust and has personal life feel to it. Depp is now the Godfather to Burtons four year old child. Flipping through the pages of memories, he remembers that who would have ever thought it possible that their progeny would be swinging on swing-sets together, or sharing toy cars, toy monsters, and even potentially exchanging chicken pox? This is the ride he never imagined. Salisbury (1995) stated that Depp showed his emotional side for the director, comprehend Tim as proud papa is enough to send me into an irrepressible weeping jag, bec ause, as with almost everything, it is in the eyes. Tims eyes have always shone no uncertainty about it, there was always something luminous in those troubled/sad/weary peepers. merely today, the eyes of old pal Tim are laser prick Piercing, smiling contented eyes, with all of the gravity of yester years, but bright with the hope of spectacular future. This was not the case before. There was a man with presumably everything- or so it seemed from the outside. But there was also something incomplete There have been numerous arguments on both Burtons and Depps creative partnership on many levels from newspapers to interviews or from books to online blogs. Some of the members of the public, especially the younger generation consider the magical film relation of both the artists a bit overrated or in some cases, annoying. But this opinion obviously takes its birth from freedom of expression of modern day and need not to be taken very seriously as there is a substantial amount of follo wers who can never have enough of the results both Burton and Depp churn out. In this context, obviously the critics and the writers have more weighting and almost all of them are the applauding lot of their work. There are some exceptions as well like, although he is all praise for the talented duo, but in one article for Radio Times the known film writer Andrew Collins expresses that he was relieved when Alice inWonderland (to be released, march 2010) was announced that he completed that Depp couldnt take the title role. But guess what? Hes playing the Mad Hatter. And after that, Burton plans to make Dark Shadows, a vampire storystarring Johnny Depp. Commenting on his article were many, but one particular member of the public responded to it like this This article is like saying that people should stop putting maple syrup on pancakes because people do it too often. Just because they work together often does not mean the work that they accomplish together gets any worse. The panca kes still experiment good. The movies are still entertaining. They make amazing movies together so why should they stop?By exploring the strategic partnership of both the talented ones on most of the projects I would frankly say Why Not? I do not feel hesitant to express that it is no doubt a God-send bonding which has never failed to amuse and amaze us and I am of the opinion that there is nothing wrong with it if they carry on to make more cinematic pieces together in future. While doing that the least they can do, like they always do, is to strive for their repute and continue to bemuse the audiences by weaving more dreams. But still, being somewhat well researched in my own manner and by equally respecting the different argument I cannot turn my back to an interesting and important comment at a film blog by an unknown blogger and I will sum up my essay with that, Just the fact that he used Ewan McGregor instead of Depp for Big Fish was refreshing and a big plus for the movie to me. Its like a painter deciding hes only going to use red and yellow for the rest of his career, when Id really like to see what he can do with some other colours.Bibliography Answers (2010). Tim Burton. The play of to Kill a Mocking Bird. Discuss how you would produce :: English Literature

The play of to Kill a Mocking Bird. Discuss how you would producethe incident in which genus Atticus shoots the rabid dogThe play of To Kill a Mocking Bird was adapted from a novel byHarper Lee. The story is set in Maycomb, Alabama in 1935, when racismwas rife. The play deals with racism and shows how the blacks wereexploited. The play is split into two acts Act One is astir(predicate) a blackman being wrongly accused of raping a white woman. It is in Act Twothat the audience finds out that the legal system would wronglyconvict a man, dependable because he is black. There are many incidentswhich occur in this play, simply the one I am going to consider is whenAtticus shoots the rabid dog.The partially of the play where the incident of Atticus shooting the rabiddog occurs starts with Jean. At this maneuver the spot light would be onJean as she locomote onto the stage and starts speaking. The incident isintroduced when she says-Then a few weeks later something happened- somethin g that made ourfather even more of a puzzle. The tension in the town about theapproaching trial was getting drum-tight, but what happened hadnothing to do with that - it had to do with a liver coloured bird dogcalled Tim.While Jean says that she would plausibly be standing at the front ofthe stage in the spot light. Behind her would be the set which wouldcomprise of the front of houses in Maycomb. At this point Jem andScout would enter the stage, with Jem pulling Scout, and talking aboutTim although they do not realise he has rabies. Soon after,Calpurnia, a black housekeeper, would come onto the stage, as thoughshe has just come out of the house she would be wiping her hands on atea towel. Calpurnia is not interested in the dog at this irregular asshe says in a sharp tone-What is it Jem? I cant come out every time you want me.It is not until Jem imitates the dogs actions - gulping like a goldfish and hunching his shoulders - that Calpurnia becomes interested.Unsure as to whether t o believe Jem, Calpurnia points her finger atJem and says with her voice hardening-You tellin me a story, Jem Finch?Jem goes on to explain how the dog is moving, he saysJust moseyin - but walkin funny. It is then that Calpurnia realises that the dog has rabies, and sohurries inside to call for help. Plains Indians Essay -- essays research papers

For many tribes of Plains Indians whose bison-hunting culture flourished during the 18th and 19th centuries, the sun dance was the major communal religious ceremony . . . the rite celebrates renewal - the spireligious rite rebirth of participants and their relatives as well as the regeneration of the living earth with all its components . . . The ritual, involving sacrifice and supplication to insure harmony between all living beings, continues to be practiced by many contemporary native Americans. -Elizabeth Atwood LawrenceAs the most important ritual of the nomadic Plains Indians, the sunniness Dance in itself presents many ideas, beliefs, and values of these cultures. through and through its rich symbolism and complicated rituals we are able to catch a glimpse into these peoples view of the world. A Sun Dance is held when a man feels the conduct to be a dancer to fulfill certain wishes, primarily "for his deliverance from his troubles, for supernatural aid, and for benefic ent blessings upon all of his people." (Welker) It is this dancer who usually bears the expenses of the Sun Dance (Atwood), including a feast for all that comes to the celebration. (Welker) Motivations behind the Sun Dance varies slightly between tribes. The Crow held the ceremony to seek aid for revenge for family members killed in warfare. The entire case surrounding the Sun Dance generally lasts from four to seven days, though longer events exist. On the first day a tree is selected to serve as the sun-pole, the center pole for the Sun Dance Lodge, or New-Life-Lodge, as called by the Cheyenne. (Atwood) The selection of the tree is usually done by the eldest woman of the camp, who leads a group of elaborately dressed maidens to the tree to strip off its branches. On the next morning, right as the sun is seen over the eastern horizon, armed warriors point the sun-pole. They attack the tree in effort to symbolically kill it with gunshots and arrows. Once it is dead it is cut do wn and taken to where the Sun Dance Lodge bequeath be erected. (Schwatka) "Before raising the sun-pole, a fresh buffalo head with a broad centre strip of the back of the hide and tail (is) fasten with strong throngs to the top crotch of the sun-pole. Then the pole (is) raised and set firmly in the design, with the buffalo head facing toward the setting-sun." (Welker) The tree represents the center of the world, connect... ...mbolism and ritual involved with the Sun Dance we can more fully understand the character of the Plains Indian cultures. The Sun Dance shows a continuity between life. It shows that in that respect is no true end to life, but a cycle of symbolic and true deaths and rebirths. All of nature is intertwined and dependent on one another. This gives an equal ground to everything on the earth. "Powerful animals exhibit both physical and spiritual powers, just as the medicine man and shaman do, and as do the grains of tobacco in the sacred pipe." ( Smart p. 527) However, just like the rest of nature, humans must give of themselves to help keep the cycles of regeneration going.SourcesAtwood-Lawrence, Elizabeth.
